May I just request that SOMEONE take it upon themselves as a MINISTRY to take the phone away from someone who has just had surgery and is hopped up on pain meds?
It was not me at all who had "female surgery" last week and then apparently a lot of inhibition-reducing drugs and decided in a bout of 3 am wakefulness to post on facebook and COMPLETELY overshare. I certainly did not discuss a catheter (and spell it wrong half the time) and internal plumbing and all manners of things that are just entirely inappropriate for me to discuss on facebook. Nor did about half of these posts make absolutely no sense at all
And if I had, I certainly would well remember the conversation and would not, almost a week later, read through it and be completely horrified that I posted such details.
And then I wouldn't laugh at myself and instantly write this blog post in my mind.
So yeah ... someone take it upon themselves as a ministry to people having surgery to just quietly slip in to their hospital rooms and remove their phones for their own good. I promise you, the patient will thank you later. So will all of the people who really don't want conversations about catheters all over their facebook walls!
(And I can see from my call history that I had a couple of conversations with people ... conversations that I can't remember AT ALL. If you happen to be one of those people, and I completely overshared with you ... please either erase it from your mind or NEVER EVER SPEAK OF IT, and since I can't remember at all, we'll just call it good and move on.)

The Easter Not Me
Pin It

There is NOT EVER any craziness at our house! I just thought I would share with y'all the story of what didn't happen on Easter morning.
First of all, because I never wait until the last minute for things, we weren't about to get out the door to go to Sunday school when I decided that I needed to take pictures of the kids in their Easter outfits.
We didn't all walk outside - me with the camera and without the car keys, kids with their stuff, and get ready for pics and hear the door shut. The words "I sure hope you checked to make sure the door was unlocked!" did not come from my mouth with a giggle.
The oldest did not rush over and confirm that the door was indeed locked.
We didn't then snap a bunch of pics as if nothing had happened. Priorities, people!
We didn't then call a friend who lives nearby and who keeps a key to the house.
We didn't wait for the friend to arrive with the voice in the back of my head saying "Her key is to the FRONT door, which will not be of any help because of my OCD locking of the screen door."
My friend did not arrive and bring us the key to the front door.
The screen door was not locked.
So, we were not all sitting outside of the house in some pretty serious wind unable to go anywhere, and I certainly did not contemplate us all sitting in the driveway and having our own church.
We didn't call Jim at work and have to leave a message. The words "It's an emergency ... but not a medical emergency, a stupidity emergency" certainly didn't come out of my mouth in said message.
We didn't check windows and realize that not a one of us is an experienced thief, so that wasn't going to happen.
We did not then start looking at the fence and speculating. Our fence is not in a REALLY bad way due to hurricanes from the past few years. I did not quickly decide that it wasn't going to be me scaling the fence because a) there is no way our flimsy fence is going to hold me up, b) I am not nearly coordinated enough to get over it, and c) I was wearing a dress. The oldest did not immediately jump on my bandwagon for the same reason. The middle one did not attempt it and then give up stating that she wasn't strong enough to go over.
We certainly did not basically toss the little one over the fence. He wasn't saying "I DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS!!" while we were doing it. The oldest and I would never have pushed his little legs over anyway.
He (really) did not fall, which is really good because I KNOW if he had, he would have somehow hit that exact same spot on his head.
The girls and I did not watch through the cracks in the fence, wondering if the back door would be unlocked or not. Really, it all depends on who opened it last. If it was me, no question, it would be locked.
We did not all cheer to realize that I did not open the back door last, as evidenced by the little one being able to open it.
So, we all made it to church looking just a little bit windblown. No women or girls had to scale a fence in a dress, and no little boys fell and hit their heads. :)
And, we all loved the Easter service at church. :)
Was YOUR Easter morning eventful?

Anyone up for some "Not Me"-ing? (Yes, I did just totally make that into a verb. Because I'm cool like that.)
Speaking of cool ... it is not me who has been repeatedly told by my oldest child how very uncool I am. Bah on her. What does she know anyway? I probably didn't roll my eyes and stamp my feet at her. :-P Seriously, sweet child. I am in my 40's. I have experienced significantly more of life than you have and have tons of coolness. AND, I even know how to properly spell the word cool, and it does NOT have a K, an E, or a W in it. (Which probably makes me decidedly UNcool.) Whatever. I'm in my 40's. I am who I am, and I don't even care. Which, actually, makes me incredibly cool.
(Nope, we never have conversations like that around our house. And these conversations never end with her rolling her eyes and stamping her feet at me.)
It is not me who got insanely sunburned on our trip. Seriously, I was outside all of about an hour. And there are places on my leg that are requiring antibiotic due to the burns. What in the heck? I did not joke that I could get sunburned in the rain. At night. And I suspect that I really could. I did not give THE LOOK to the middle one when she looked at her gorgeous golden brown skin and remarked that she had never had a sunburn. (Really I'm glad of that!) The oldest got a teeny bit pink and is now brown, the middle one just turned brown, and the little one, bless his little heart, has his mother's skin, so he wears body armor in the sun. He did pick up some new freckles though, which I think are totally adorable.
I did not go on a rampage last week that involved cleaning the girls' bedroom. Nope, not me. And I would never throw away or threaten to throw away a ton of stuff to accomplish this goal. And I certainly would not ever threaten their very lives if their room ever got that messy again. I am raising proper, neat, young ladies here, not slobs, so their room would never get very messy in the first place. Glad that didn't happen. Nor did the seven bags of trash that came out of there.
And I certainly would never type a paragraph like that last one while sitting in my own messy room. Nope, not me. No hypocrisy here.
(And it's also not me who is happy dancing that apparently I spelled hypocrisy correctly on the first try because there isn't a red squiggly line under it. Woot!)
So that's it for now ... What haven't you done lately?

Not Me!

It's been a while and I am not bursting to tell y'all all the things I haven't done recently.
It is not me whose facebook status is currently "my kids are weird." I would never speak that way about these little darlings. And if I DID have that as my status, I would never tell them. And if I DID, they would probably not respond very matter-of-factly with "We're not weird. We're interesting. There's a huge difference." I am not sitting here laughing at them at this very moment thinking that all of this weirdness MUST have come from their father.
(And there is absolutely no way that the oldest one is giving the middle on a science lesson, involving the word "rectum" which is apparently a word the middle one just heard for the first time. She apparently thinks it's a cool word, and is shrieking as the oldest one fills her in on what it means.)
We did not give the middle one iced coffee with her lunch, and she is not currently running around in the circle that the house makes between the kitchen, dining room, living room, and family room, and I am not using the phrase "electric chihuahua" to describe her at this moment. (Well? Have you met her? Don't you agree that "electric chihuahua" describes her pretty well?)
I do not feel the urge to go take a nap just watching her.
In other news ... have I spoken of my addiction to chili? And the realization that as much as I love the chili at Jason's Deli, it's really not in anyone's best interest for me to eat there every single day? (Well, except possibly Jason's best interest! A cup of chili is pretty cheap, but add to it a drink and at least two other meals because I seem to travel in a pack and my frugal choice is suddenly less than frugal.) Well, I am not currently trying yet another chili recipe to find one that I absolutely love. I've not gone through about seven different recipes in the past couple of months to get it just right. Nope, not me. I know my family is not pleading with me to just find one I like so I can stopexperimenting on them trying new recipes. (Today's version is The Pioneer Woman's. I'm feeling hopeful.)
Oh, and one more. It was not my son who burst into spontaneous prayer the other day as we left ... ahem ... Jason's Deli (giggle) and pulled into the parking lot of the BIG HEB. His prayer did not go something like this: "Please God, don't let us be going to HEB. Please God." I did not giggle and tell him "God said we needed groceries so we're going to HEB." He did not then pretend to go to sleep in the car. And I did not dissolve into laughter, as did his older sisters. Love the master manipulation techniques of a five year old!
Goodness gracious ... we have laughed and giggled more today than we have in the past few weeks! Woohoo for giggly days!

Not Me ... Tuesday?

Just so we're clear, it is not me who is making the girls do some schoolwork the week between Christmas and New Year's. If some stories to that effect should surface, just know that they're all lies. ALL LIES, okay. Because I'd never make my kids take their vacation and do schoolwork. Nope, not me.
And if I did happen to do that? It wouldn't be because it was driving me crazy to finish the semester on an odd class number. Nor would it be because I couldn't handle the sound of the TV blaring an inane (and probably inappropriate) show. School vacations are supposed to be filled with laziness and TV and a general uselessness, right? Glad that hasn't happened at our house this week.
We are not currently frying some cereal. I know you're glad to know that. I did not cram the microwave full of stuff I didn't want sitting on the counter ... like cereal and crackers and the like. One of these cereal boxes did not get a little .. um .. suicidal and jumped right from the microwave into hot oil when the oldest opened the microwave. Cereal did not go everywhere, as didn't hot oil, which didn't burn the oldest's arm. (btw - if this HAD happened, I wouldn't be marveling that she's not screaming like ... ahem ... someone else recently did with a burn.) (And if it was pointed out by said oldest that she wasn't screaming, I wouldn't pull out the tiny dots on the arm versus ENTIRE PALM to justify.) Glad all that didn't happen. And glad I don't have the *lovely* smell of fried cereal in my house. Glad I'm not just looking at it thinking there is no way I can do a thing about it until it's not so hot. And especially glad I don't have a humongous mess to clean up.
and btw ... don't think for a second that it didn't occur to me that if I could some how find a way to put it on a stick, I could very well have the next fair food craze. Fried cereal on a stick. Yum. Unfortunately fried Captain Crunch smells pretty bad. Or I assume it does. I really wouldn't know.
And for the record, as we're easing back into Dave Ramsey "we need to have an emergency fund" mode, I didn't make a two week menu using all of the leftovers, and then leave the house to go out to lunch before going to the grocery store. I'd never be all hypocritical like that. Nope, not me.
So ... with all that said ... there seems to be a mess in my kitchen that is requiring some attention. Sigh.

A Little "Not Me"?
Oh I need to tell y'all a few things that didn't happen over the last week!
First of all, it was not me that ate very lightly on Thanksgiving. Because it appears that in the USA, we are thankful for gluttony as much as anything else right? So, yeah, I ate lightly on Thanksgiving. I really did. I did not therefore, decide that each broken cookie must be consumed, by me, as quickly as possible. And apparently? Raspberry thumbprint cookies, the very best cookies on earth, do not travel well, so there were lots of broken ones. And if I had eaten about 47 broken cookies, I would not call it a sacrifice and a pride issue rather than gluttony, because it is not me who would have an issue serving broken cookies. To my parents. So yeah, great that I took a tiny piece of turkey and then consumed 7897312 calories worth of broken cookies. It was also not me who considered every cookie with a crumb broken off to be completely broken and unfit for consumption by anyone but me. Just so you know, and I'm very glad that wasn't me.
May I pick on my husband for a moment? In the rush to get up and get out the door Thanksgiving morning, several of us did not forget to eat. He did not, therefore, stop along the way and buy a bag of cookies. There weren't about eight dozen cookies already in the car, by the way. Eight dozen homemade cookies, which everyone knows are MUCH better than chips ahoy. :-P
I did not take four children (my three plus my niece) to Kohl's the day before Thanksgiving and then lecture them in the parking lot about asking for things. And if I had, I certainly would not have dragged them through the store while I impulse shopped ... for myself. Nope, not me.
And while we were out, we certainly did not go to the BIG grocery store the day before Thanksgiving to pick up a few things. That would be just plain nuts because everyone knows that as crazy as Black Friday shopping is, the day before Thanksgiving grocery shopping is the exact same thing without the great deals. No way would I voluntarily take four kids into that. Glad that wasn't me.
It absolutely was not me that turned my daughter's Thanksgiving "let's go around the room and say what we're thankful for" into a math problem. That would entirely suck the fun out of her activity and there is no way I would request that she compile the answers into a graph and figure up percentages. Nope, not me.
And last one ... I am so glad that it wasn't me who sent texts to my daughter and niece to tell them to be quiet and go to sleep. Because that would be just plain lazy, and I am never lazy. (choke, gasp) Glad that wasn't me!

Not Me Monday
Pin It
Okay, so mckmama isn't doing "Not Me Monday" anymore. It isn't me who is sad about that. Someone around here has been doing all kinds of stuff, but it isn't me. I just need to share.
I am absolutely not freaking out about getting off our schedule and then realizing that we have extra things to do both today and Tuesday this week. I did not sit and try to figure out how to squeeze some extra work in, and even briefly consider some schoolwork on Saturday to make it all work. That was absolutely not me, I would never consider schoolwork on a Saturday! (For what it's worth, that idea was heartily rejected by every single person in this house. Even the cats looked at me and sadly shook their heads as if wondering what in the heck I was thinking even pondering an idea such as that. Judged by cats. Sigh. Glad that wasn't me.)
It does not bother me at all to end a week on a lesson that does not end with a 5 or a 0. Like having the last spelling day of a unit not finished on a Friday. Nope, doesn't drive me crazy at all. Not one little bit. Not for a second would I wake up bothered by it, and not at all would I make plans to try to squeeze in that one lesson. I probably wouldn't just decide to skip it either to make the next week work well. I'm not that OCD, so it couldn't possibly be me who does that.
(or maybe it was a little bit me. This is a cry for help, friends. Someone please help me and tell me the world will not spin off its axis if we end the week on lesson 49.)
The little one just had his tonsils out on Thursday. I have not at all used the excuse that the little one isn't eating and needs nourishment to justify going to Starbucks ... um ... a few times. Because everybody knows that the very best thing for a five year old after a tonsillectomy is coffee, right? Put down that phone; no need to call CPS. He drinks hot chocolate with a little ice. Or he would. IF I went to Starbucks. Which I didn't. Several times.
This week the grouchy mom who sometimes lives at my house did not return. I did not even once need to hide in the bathroom for an attitude adjustment. I also did not send out a plea for chocolate via my blog. Nor did I get some chocolate and DEVOUR it. Nor did I hide it so that I wouldn't have to share with the little vultures ... um ... sweet cherubs ... that live here.
So, there is all the stuff that I didn't do this week. What didn't you do? If there's anything you didn't do, leave a comment so we can go over and laugh at you ... um, I mean commiserate.

So, there is all the stuff that I didn't do this week. What didn't you do? If there's anything you didn't do, leave a comment so we can go over and laugh at you ... um, I mean commiserate.

Not Me Monday!

It's been a while since I've done one of these. :)
Last week is off limits though. I've already blogged about it, and that whole week? Well, that just wasn't me. Period. Mmmmkay? ;)
BUT.
We are NOT getting ready to celebrate the fifth birthday of a little man I promise I just had a couple of years ago. He could not possibly be going to be FIVE this week! NO. WAY.
Funny that Hurricane Rita seems long ago, but the baby born just a couple of weeks before seems like he can't be that old. And we shall not relive the day of Rita, or worse, the day of evacuation. Ever. Amen.
We have not made a big production about turning five, and how five year olds have to give up some of the things from baby days. We've been building up to giving up something for several months now.
That something? It wouldn't possibly be sippy cups, because everyone knows that not only is five too old for a sippy cup, so is four. And probably three. So, there is no way that my child still has a cup of chocolate milk in a sippy cup every single morning.
And it certainly would not be me who has encouraged this habit somewhat, because giving him a sippy cup means that he will come snuggle with me in bed, so that a) I can sleep in a little longer, and b) I can pretend that he is still a baby a little longer.
Nope, I'd never do that.
And I wouldn't have planned a big "Let's package up all the sippy cups and give them to Tucker!" celebration, either.
And I'm certainly not going to miss the morning "grab your sippy cup and come snuggle me" time. Because milk in a cup that might spill? On my bed? NOT GONNA HAPPEN. Maybe he will still come snuggle me, even without a cup. I hope!
But this would not be us, because my dear son, who is not going to turn five this week, gave up sippy cups at the appropriate age of three, long ago.

I've written up a new book giveaway and will post it later today. There are a few things I couldn't possibly have done this week, so I thought I'd share them with you first.
First of all, after almost 41 years of life, I am not still totally in denial about my awesome ability to sunburn. I did not go swimming with *only* spf 50 sunscreen applied twice. You know, as if sunscreen would suddenly start working for me or something. After 3 1/2 hours in the sun, I'm not completely red and sitting here in pain.
Here's an fyi though. Apparently ... ahem ... *older* skin does not peel as readily as younger skin. It just wrinkles. Awesome.
My child did not remark to me that I get in a very bad mood when I have a sunburn. I did not wish to thump her in the head. Her remark did not follow a conversation in which I stated "these are your options for lunch. Period." and she certainly did not reply "or this. How about this? Don't we have this?" and I did not get angry and state "THESE ARE YOUR OPTIONS FOR LUNCH. PERIOD." Because I would never argue with my children over meals. hm ... maybe the fact that my face is so burned that it hurts to smile HAS put me in a little bit of a grumpy mood. Nope, couldn't be that.
And I did not at all make a list of the contents of my freezer with the intention of planning a menu from it, and then sit down to make a menu and decide that I didn't want any of the stuff in there and couldn't think of a thing to make from it. Nope, not me, because it is full-on hurricane season, and after trashing the contents of my freezer several times now, I'd never enter August with a full freezer with no plans to use it all up.
(So if you see me, feel free to ask me the condition of my freezer.)
And that's it for this week! Stay tuned, I'll post the new book giveaway in a bit.

I've done some really REALLY dumb things lately. I know I wouldn't hesitate to share if my kids had done them, so in the interest of full disclosure, let me share the dumb things I have done.
Jim has had this really nice plasma TV for a couple of years now. It was a gift from his mom. Shortly after installing it, we upgraded to HD cable. For some reason, the oh so lucky cable guy had to deal with me rather than Jim when he came out. This was pre-Army, so Jim must have just been at work or something. So, the cable guy shows me how to operate the TV by using a sports channel, it looked fabulous, and he left. He had probably not even started his car before I took it off the sports channel and the super sharp HD'ness went away. I complained to Jim and to other people that the quality on this TV wasn't really any better than the old, little TV in the bedroom and that I couldn't understand why the TV was rated so well. (Yes - there was much studying of consumer reports - by Jim - before the TV was purchased.)
Now let's fast forward two YEARS. We switched from DSL to cable for our internet, which meant that the cable guy had to come out again. The words "you're putting it on the HD channels, right?" never came out of anyone's mouth.
Um ... let's just say it was NOT ME who never even realized that the HD channels weren't just the regular channels. There's no way that the regular channels have regular programming, and to see nice, sharp, HD pictures, you must actually change to an HD channel. Nope, not me. I'd never be so technologically challenged that I wouldn't realize that I needed to just change the channel.
There haven't been any minor issues about the phone not working because it wasn't plugged in, either.
And I never once had to ask my 11 year old to help me figure out how to do something on my phone. Or my computer.
Nope, not me.
(and to the child who once told me that I teased her on my blog ... see, I use myself as blog fodder sometimes too. We're even.)

Let's jump right in!
It is not me who is waffling yet again about our choice for English/Language Arts curriculum for Gabbi for next year. I had it all planned out AND BOUGHT and I've looked at the table of contents and it's ... um ... intimidating, so I'm thinking of looking at something else.
Oh, and it's not me who would ever be intimidated by a table of contents. Ahem.
It is not me who has been researching cameras lately. I didn't decide that I needed to do this when one small feature on my camera stopped working. Oh, and that small feature? It didn't take a five minute google search to fix it. So, of course, when my camera was fixed, I immediately stopped my camera search. I didn't get excited to see that an upgrade for the model I wanted is due out soon, and I didn't think about how that might lower the price on the model I want. Nope, not me. I'm CONTENT with what I have. (Oh, and there is NO WAY that every time I pop on to Amazon, the camera stuff is there waiting for me.)
I didn't completely cave and do a total about-face regarding a thing Gabbi wanted to do. Nope, no bowing to pressure here. Because I had to preview this thing before considering it for Gabbi, I didn't spend the last two weeks of my life with my nose in a series of books and watching an incredibly cheesy movie that has a huge following that I don't completely understand. I also did not underestimate my daughter, figuring that she would see that said book has 500 pages and thinking she would be intimidated by that and not follow through. Sigh. It took her less than a week. I am not currently being pressured (by her) to allow the rest of the series. (For this, I will be standing firm. It's a definite NOT YET! Not for a couple of years, anyway.)
And now, because I have a to do list a mile long, and a firm case of the "don't wannas" but I've lived in that land way too much this summer, I'm going to run and get busy!

Hey guys!
We are beginning the busiest week of the year, with both the AWANA end of the year program and musical, and recital. I'm trying to soak up some quiet moments while I can!
I do have some not me moments to share!

It is NOT ME who hasn't touched the recital costumes. It is NOT ME who has not a clue what I'm even supposed to do with the recital costumes. It is NOT ME who has EIGHT of the costumes to deal with, and it is NOT ME who knows that at least one of the costumes does not fit. I suspect there is another one that's going to need some alterations as well. Oh, it's also not me who does said alterations with a handy-dandy stapler. Seriously. I've just counted - this is our ninth recital since Gabbi started dance, and the primary use of my stapler has been for costumes. As uncreative as I am, we've had some REALLY interesting methods of holding recital costumes together. Hey, whatever works, right? Oh, and the costumes? They're not supposed to be done by tonight or anything. I'm not that much of a procrastinator. Nope, not me. In case you're wondering? I'm not going to fall back on my status as a "professional" dance mom and not even get to the costumes until later in the week. There's no way in the world that my kids are going to show up at recital with the glue from the sequins still wet.
I did not have a sweet moment in church with my dear son yesterday. I did not observe that he wanted to be held every time we stood up and think "aww, he loves me!" I did not a few minutes later notice that when we stood up and I held him, he could see his buddy sitting a few rows behind me and realize that I was just the means to an end. Chopped liver when his buddy around, that's me. Or not me.
We are not going to, for the fourth time, try to get the HONEY out of the new rug today. My sweet children know that food, especially sticky food, must be eaten in the kitchen and would never flood a tortilla with honey and then take it into the family room and eat it on the new rug. And then they'd never track it all over the new rug. And then they'd never go outside and get their feet dirty and track dirt into the honey that had been tracked into the new rug. Nope, not my kids. For what it's worth, if that DID happen, I would never LOSE.MY.MIND. over it.
(with that said ... anyone know of anything that might remove honey from a rug?)
So ... that's it for this week! I hope to be able to blog a little this week. I think I might have an i heart faces entry to post today or tomorrow too.

Not Me Monday

It's been a few weeks since I've done one of these. I guess I was just saving up for now.
I have not realized over the last week that I am the very definition of a mean mom.
Background - read the last post. My sweet daughter did not *OBLITERATE* her text messaging limit within about three days of making a new friend.
IF she had, I would not have zipped over to the verizon website, and change our account to have unlimited texting. They backdated the change to make the overages magically go away. I certainly would NOT have kept this tidbit of information from my daughter. I wouldn't be making her earn the money to pay off the overages, that now actually don't exist, in dishes and floors cleaning, and I wouldn't have her every day checking the calendar to see when she can text again. It would just be mean to not tell her that she can text again, that she doesn't have to work to pay off charges that don't exist, and especially not to tell her that making the change actually saves money per month, so it's all good. Nope, I'm not mean like that, at all.
And speaking of mean, I am certainly not making my sweet children do schoolwork on Spring Break. I did let them sleep until 8 this morning, and I did not at all wake them with the words "time for schooooooool work~!!" And I absolutely did not reply in a sing-song voice that I really didn't care if they wanted to do it or not, that school work was on the schedule, so they were doing it. I did not giggle at all when whines of "THAT'S NOT FAIR!!" came my way, and I did not even once stick my fingers in my hears and say "La la la la la, I'm not listening!" to the complaints that came. I'm 40 for heaven's sake, way more mature than that!
And before anyone thinks terribly of me, we are taking off a week in April to go on a vacation, after their daddy gets home, for their spring break. Not only that, they all three have passports to the local Heritage Festival this week, so although they will be doing school every day, they will not be miserably chained to their desks or anything like that. I expect that, if the rain EVER stops, we'll spend most every evening at the Festival.
Oh, and speaking of vacations, I have not let my OCD nature take over, and there may or may not be a 35 column spreadsheet on my computer comparing costs and a bunch of details. I have not considered printing both said spreadsheet and an itinerary in booklet format for each family member, in picture form for the non-reader, so they will know what I expect of them when it comes to having fun for this vacation. (And nope, I did not just have to look up how to spell itinerary. What on earth has happened to my spelling skills??)
Okay, since I don't have a mountain of laundry piled up to be folded, and I don't need to go to Sam's (it IS raining, after all, which means we must go to Sam's) I'll close this post now.
What didn't YOU do this week?

The following words did not come out of my mouth:
No, honey, you can't have a pickle for breakfast. I'd rather you have something like a donut. Or hey, how about a corn dog?
I did not then sit down, watch my sweet girl eat her corn dog, FOR BREAKFAST, and then wonder what on earth I was thinking. Nope, not me.
And also, cleanliness being next to godliness and all that (yes, I know that phrase is not actually in the Bible), I'd never let my son get absolutely filthy dirty playing outside when the sun finally decided to show itself after several days of rain. (Actually the more appropriate picture here would probably be the picture of the many layers of dirt that *weren't* in my bathtub after bathing the boy who didn't get filthy dirty. I didn't take one of those pictures though.)

I am not happy dancing, as I type this on Sunday afternoon to post on Monday, that my co-op stuff is ready. ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON (as opposed to Sunday night.) I've had all week to do it, so I'd never just wait until *almost* the last minute, and then happy dance that it isn't exactly the last minute!
I did not bribe my two older children with money to clean out a kitchen cabinet for me, and if I had, it wouldn't have been to serve several purposes. 1) To give them a project to work on together in hopes that they would stop bickering with each other, 2) to give them a chance to earn a little bit of money so they would stop begging me to take them to the Hallmark store to buy this little dog/backpack combination, 3) to give me the opportunity to go hide in my bedroom because the kitchen floor was covered with the stuff from the cabinet, and 4) because the cabinet really did need to be organized. Nope, I'd never do that.

Not Me Monday
Pin It
Well, after dumping my heart out last night, I think I need a little "not me-ing" today.
It is not 8:00 am. I am not the only one up. We do not have a busy day of "back to school" and I have not made the choice to just let them sleep because I am not enjoying the quiet in the house so very much. (Funny, as I typed that, Brendan just popped in here and told me to get up because the sun's up!)
I have not gotten completely lazy on the meal planning around here the last few weeks. Well, not only the meal planning, but the meal cooking as well. We didn't eat out WAY too much while Jim was here, and when we didn't eat out, I certainly didn't pass a fair amount of the cooking off to him. I didn't *gain* a lot from this leave experience and all of the eating out either. I worked way too hard to lose some weight to get completely sidetracked by fondue. Nope, not me. Let's just hope that meal ideas kind of just pop out at me, because a big trip to the grocery store does not appeal to me so much.
Speaking of grocery stores ... I didn't decide that I needed a day off yesterday and stay home from church while sending two of the three kids with a friend. I didn't take the third child and make a quick trip to the grocery store during church. Nope, not me. And if I had done this, I wouldn't have grabbed the one thing we needed (milk) and impulsively buy a bunch of other stuff that all put together would not make a meal. (That's my nice way of saying I certainly would not have bought a bunch of junk food.)
I'm not sitting here staring at a pile of laundry and various other things that need to be put away and feeling a nudge to get up and get moving, nor am I fighting that nudge with everything that is in me. That nudge has not enlisted the four year old to get me moving, and the four year old is not threatening to bring the gallon of milk into my bedroom so that I can make his ritual chocolate milk. (Oh - I'll bet most of you don't know of my milk aversion and the very thought of having a gallon of milk brought into my bedroom is nearly about giving me hives, and FORCING, yes FORCING me to get out of bed and make the chocolate milk.)
I hope you all have a fabulous Monday!

Not Me again
Pin It
New Year, same ole' me.
I did not undo three months of hard "healthy" work in one month. How is that even possible? How can it take ages and tons of hard work to lose weight and just a few oreos to gain it all back?!? That's totally not fair. Okay, perhaps there were more than just a few. And that's all I'm going to say about that.
In related news though, I am not all sore ... from walking. Nope, not at all. I did a great walk/jog thing with five miles a day regularly until December hit, so there is no way that a brisk half mile walk could possibly make me SORE.
I am not totally irritated with still having Christmas stuff up, including presents that are unopened. We decided to hold Christmas until Jim gets home, which seemed like a good idea at the time. It's not now driving me crazy to have it all there, nor is it really bothering me that I can't get into my closet because the rest of the Christmas stuff is in there. I am not currently considering letting them open a few presents just so that they're out of the way. Nor am I considering just taking some more pics of the tree and sticking them on the wall so I can put the tree up. I was reading on another blog this morning how Christmas builds up and builds up, but then when it's over, it's just plain over. This is so true! Hopefully we just have a day or two left ...
(by the way - I will not be disassembling the tree as my children are opening presents. Nope, not me.)
I'm sure I have some "not me's" for my kids, but since they're rolling out of bed ... at 10:00 am ... I'm going to go try to decide if I should offer them a late breakfast, or make them starve for a little bit to have an early lunch, or come up with something and call it brunch.

Not Me!
As I'm sitting here in the quiet of my house on December 21 with about four presents wrapped and about 104 to go, and a big ole pile of laundry (didn't I just DO the laundry?!?), I think I need a little "not me" action.
It was not me who typed the "go north" post and got up in the middle of it, ate some cookie dough, then sat back down to finish it.
It is not me who has been sugar free for two days. Nobody has been yelled at, maimed, or harmed in any way because of this. Amen. I did not make six dozen cookies yesterday and miraculously not eat a one of them. I do enjoy making cookies and it works pretty well to just make them and give them away. I did keep a few though; somebody make them stop staring at me like the eyes in the Geico commercials! (My children will probably take care of that when they wake up ... cookies for breakfast anyone? Nope, not me.) Oh and by the way - do not think there's anything noble going on here. I am the girl who can eat nearly an entire package of oreos and proved that in the last week. :-/ I mean, no I'm not. Or didn't. Or something like that.
I do not keep putting off getting a netflix subscription because it's more than I want to spend in a month on renting movies. In the meantime, I also do not go to redbox and end up keeping every movie I rent for nearly a week. Yeah, someone do the math here ... this is not the most brilliant financial move ...
Jim will be home for leave soon, so we have told the children that we're going to hold Christmas until he gets here. My children have not told other people that we're just not having Christmas this year. Oh my. (So, if you're reading this and have heard from my children that we're not having Christmas, it's not true. Actually (blush) mama has overcompensated for *something or other* and the children are going to have a bigger Christmas than normal. Oops. Because we all know presents make everything better, right?)
My son does not have his mother's natural skepticism. He did not, on Saturday, when Santa asked him what he wanted for Christmas, look at him seriously and say "I already told you what I wanted!" Yikes. After a few seconds of panic, I did not look at Santa and say "Of course Santa remembers that you want a GRABBER TRUCK for Christmas!" The funny thing - this is just Santa #2 for him this year, and this one really looked like Santa. The first one ... um ... did not. Not even close.
Okay, I believe that's it for this Monday! I'm working on a picture post from I heart faces that I might be able to get up today ... or maybe tomorrow.

Not Me ... um Sunday night
Pin It
Well, I wasn't going to do one of these this week in the interest of being so busy keeping my plates spinning, but since it's 11:30 Sunday night and I've got a good 20 minutes before the dryer is done, and since I just know that if I don't put the clothes from the washer into the dryer tonight, I'll forget about them completely, and I definitely don't want that to happen, I'll do a not me.
First thing - I would never ever post a humongous run on sentence. I'd never do something myself that would cause me to pull out my handy dandy red pen and mark all over it if my children did it. Nope, no double standards here.
I am not using the children sleeping excuse to not vacuum my floors. And I certainly did not avoid doing this chore that I hate all day long, for the express purpose of using the excuse of sleeping children to get out of it. I would never do that. (so ... um ... if you come over, just don't look at the floors, mmmkay?)
I did not have a fit over a pair of slipper socks that one child HAD TO HAVE and then promptly lost. Nor did I have a fit over a missing shoe, a dribble down the front of a shirt, dirty boots, a stepped-on toy, spilled cat food, or a dog that would. not. stop. barking. I'd never have a fit over such things.
I did not procrastinate this week. Not once. I certainly did not grade co-op papers that I had all week long a couple of hours ago. I put a lot of thought into grading and working with these kids, so I would never ever put off even looking at their work until the last minute. I'd also not have considered putting it off until tomorrow morning, except that I was worried something else would come up and I'd forget them altogether.
And with that said, the dryer just buzzed. WOOT! Good night everyone!

Not Me

Yep, even in the midst of having nothing of substance to say here, I do have some not me's. Go figure!
I have not let the laundry pile up to disastrous proportions. I am not actually SCARED to start tackling it right now, because there is enough of it that it could actually take over the house if it had a mind to. There would be no reason for me to let it get that bad, I was home every single day last week.
I am not having to remind myself constantly that my daughter is still not herself after having her tonsils and adenoids removed last week. We have not had a spree of bad behavior on both her part ... and mine ... especially yesterday. Poor little thing, I know she's not feeling well. She did not take that as an excuse to display some completely AWFUL behavior. I was not embarrassed by the behavior and way more interested in just making it stop than in trying to figure out what was going on. There was not a ton of rejoicing last night at bedtime, simply because the day was over.
And, I am not sitting here having a temper tantrum myself when I received something that was different from what I wanted and expected. This tantrum is not something that is just going to hurt me in the long run, and I'm not completely justifying it by sticking my fingers in my ears and saying "LALALALALA I'm not listening and I don't care!"
(hm ... can't imagine WHERE any of my children may get their fabulous tantrum throwing abilities ... )
Okay ... headed to sort some laundry. If I don't blog again in the next few days, you'll know that the laundry won, and I'm crumpled on the floor somewhere trying to beat it off with a stick. Those who survive will be wearing out of season or too big/small clothes.
(oh, and as I typed this, my son did NOT lay down and take a nap. At 4:15 in the afternoon. I am not anticipating a really long night for us now. SIGH.)

Not Me Monday
Pin It
What a fun and busy week we had! With all the fun and busyness, you'd think there wouldn't be any "not me" moments, right? HA. I have just a few to share.
I always thought it was so sweet when I would teach little 3 and 4 year old boys in Sunday school that they wanted to grow up and marry their moms. Awwww. So therefore, I have to tell you that it is NOT my son who does NOT want to grow up and marry me. Nope, not my son. Of course he wants to grow up and marry me. He did not at all, when I asked him who he was going to marry, loudly declare "Gabbi!" Nope, my son does not really love his sister more than he loves me! It was so darn cute though!
If you've read here any time at all, you know the struggle I'm having while trying to lose weight. That's why I would never have agonized over whether to spend 40 calories by putting mayonnaise on my sandwich or not. And I would never have decided to just save those 40 calories in case something better came along. And I certainly wouldn't sit down immediately after this internal debate and eat a bag of cheetos. Nope, not me. (btw - I'm sure the 40 calories I denied myself really do balance out the THREE HUNDRED TWENTY calories in a bag of cheetos.)
And since we're not me-ing, I have to tell on my daughter for just a moment. She had some friends over a couple of nights ago. They did not watch and giggle through the "Love Comes Softly" movies. Then they did not go to bed and stay up until 2 am, giggling and ... are you ready for this? DRAWING. They ILLUSTRATED the movies. One girl was giving drawing lessons, and the others were following along. No makeup, boy talk, or any inappropriate behavior whatsoever. Just drawing. I was not enormously blessed by this!
And now we are not about to rush out the door, because once again, I am not running late. I never run late. Just so you know.
