I'll Take "Struggles" for $1000, Alex.

Pin It Answer: Motivation, Motivation, Motivation.

oh oh oh~!! I know!!

What is Melanie's biggest struggle right now?

ding ding ding

It's like an enormous problem. I mentioned earlier that I had postponed the start of school, yet again. Want to know why? I have ALL of our stuff sitting here. I have my planner sitting here. EVERYTHING is sitting here. It's all kind of lurking and leering at me. I can't seem to find the motivation to just do it and actually get started. We did get some stuff done today because both girls can just jump in and go with their math. So that's something, but I still need to figure out where to start Madelyn in spelling and get the DVDs ready, and get some lesson plans done. This is really not a huge deal - our curriculum is DVD driven. Lesson plans consist of "on THIS day, do THIS lesson and THIS page in your book." Not rocket science or even anything that is going to take too long to do. I JUST NEED TO DO IT.

Exercise. I tend to do really well in short spurts. Then something happens - someone gets sick or we go out of town or something, and the motivation wanes, TO NEVER RETURN AGAIN.

I really am not happy with this part of me. I do want to seek contentment, however, I still have to do the things I need to do, and I don't see slothfulness being on the list of things I need to do, anywhere. I certainly don't want to be content in sin and laziness.

I'm hoping that by posting this, I'll either gain some motivation, or at least let y'all know how to pray for me.

Grinning, praying, and resisting the urge to encourage you to look into unschooling. It's the direction we're going, and, my, have the guilt trips over planning, etc. gone by the boards. But I'll pray that you find the motivation to go in the direction you're led to go. Just to take that first step that will make the next ones a little easier. Love you, lady.

I was thinking the same thing as Becky...would unschooling maybe be a good fit for you during this already HARD year? Praying for you that you find the motivation you are desiring too.

I think that would likely leave me more stressed out ... not sure if it would be a good fit with my personality. I am interested to see what that looks like in your families though. My fear here is that my children would become scholars ... in Phineas and Ferb ... which is what they majored in this summer. SIGH.

Well, it was definitely harder for me to begin with. Jo Beth and Cristina were the first ones to even mention unschooling to me, I'd never heard of it. I thought it sounded cool in theory, but thought I could never do it. As soon as I figured out that unschooling is more about finding your own groove based on your family, it was the easiest thing in the world. No guilt, no shoulds...just staying open to who I am, who my kids are and what the HS is telling me each day. I breathe easier and enjoy my kids so much more now. And truly, I know it's not for everyone, but I saw you with your kids-I do think it'd be a great fit for you all if you did want to do it (even if for just this year).
