And the really sad thing? One of my children is away visiting her grandparents. It's just the two little ones!

I've been tagged!
MamaJ tagged me with the "six quirky things" meme!
Here are the rules:
1) Link to the person who tagged me.
2) Mention the rules.
3) Tell six quirky yet boring, unspectacular details about myself.
4) Tag 6 other blogger´s by linking to them.
5) Go to each person’s blog and leave a comment that lets them know they’ve been tagged.
So 6 uninteresting quirky facts about myself are......
1. I am a sheet snob. Regular sheets won't work for me, I need at least 600 thread count. Jim used to roll his eyes at this, but I have converted him and he is a sheet snob too now.
2. I seem to have a door obsession. All doors that should be closed must be closed at all times. Closet doors, cabinet doors ... I promise you I go into the bathroom about 37 times in a day and close the shower curtain and linen closet doors. (And I suspect that my family aims to slowly drive me insane by leaving these doors open.)
3. We've been home for three days and I haven't unpacked the suitcase yet. I figure we'll just keep getting our clothes out of there and eventually it will unpack itself.
4. I am *completely* OCD about some things. My blockfeeds (Homesat for our homeschool) all start and stop at the exact same place for each day's classes. I will go back and forth several times to get it just right.
5. I am a card-carrying member of the grammar police. Poor grammar drives me nuts, as do words spelled incorrectly.
6. I absolutely can't stand to have sand or dirt or anything gritty on my feet. I'll never wear shoes with open toes and generally wear shoes or at least socks at home.
That was harder than I thought it would be!
Okay, who am I going to aggravate by tagging?
The Momma - The Quakes in my Quiver
Mrs. P - Through the Maze
The Mama (different than The Momma!) - Home - School - Life
Kristin - Life's Small Moments
My Friend - Troll Baby Feet
Carey - My Three Wonders

Random Ramblings

We just got back from Spokane, visiting Jim's family. We really had a fabulous trip. The kids loved spending time with Grammy and with their aunts and cousins, and of course spending tons of time in the pool. Jim and I enjoyed getting out of the sauna that is southeast Texas in the summer. I'll share a few pictures soon, need to do a little editing first (mainly to reduce them; most of them turned out pretty nice SOOC.)
We learned a few things on this trip. Main thing - Madelyn is physically incapable of swimming and flying on the same day. Our flight home was an overnight flight (another lesson learned - never do that again!) and poor Miss Mad cried the whole way with her ears hurting. Poor baby. Another thing - my bottle of water is evidently a security risk. The big sharp scissors that were in Gabbi's backpack are evidently not a security risk. Seriously. We're at Grammy's house and Gabbi pulled scissors out of her backpack. The same backpack that was selected for additional screening - it went through the x-ray machine and it was sorted by hand. I feel secure, don't you? Oh, one more lesson learned - never underestimate the DELIGHT that a 2 year old will experience seeing lots of "big jets!" He LOVED the airport. He wasn't as crazy about being on the airplane, but he loved to look out the windows at the airport.
We found out while we were gone that our homeschool plan is going to have to be completely changed after May of 2009. We love Bob Jones Homesat, and it ends this year. This is totally giving me stress. I'm trying to plan for this year, and taping some extra classes so we can soak everything out of homesat that we possibly can. Splitting blockfeeds is going to be my sole mission for this year - if I'm taping a bunch of extra classes, I'm going to have a bunch of blockfeeds to split. Fun fun. I guess I can try to look at the bright side - after 5/09, I won't have to split blockfeeds anymore. :( Not really such a bright side. I'm going to try to have all of k-6th grade taped by the end of the year. (Not as big a deal as it sounds - I already have 1st, some of 3rd, 4th, and 5th. I'll just need to do K, 2nd, the rest of 3rd, and 6th. And maybe Spanish. Still trying to decide that.)
In good news ... the diaper buying days are OVER. I'm amazed. Whoever said boys were harder to train didn't meet mine. G we had to potty train twice - once before M was born and once after. I thought M was never going to potty train. Then B decided that he was ready to use the potty and that's been that. I think he's had three accidents over the past couple of weeks. I wasn't even going to think about potty training for another few months. Did I mention I'm amazed? Definitely not complaining though!
Okay ... guess that's it for my random ramblings. I'll post some pics of our trip tomorrow.

Locks of Love

I'm so proud of my big girl! She donated 12" of hair to Locks of Love. I'm sure there will soon be a scrapbook page of this, but in the meantime, here are some pics:
Before: (um, yeah, it looks a little ratty in the pic. It really didn't look that bad in person.)
12"!
After: Isn't it precious?

We have way too much stuff!

My goal for the day was to declutter and clean. I told the kids, I told the husband, everyone was prepared that Monday morning, it was time to get to work. Except that Monday morning rolled around and mama felt like being lazy. Doesn't that always happen? So after finally getting in gear, the day is half over, the kitchen sparkles, two closets are clean, the front bathroom sparkles, and there is a mountain of stuff going to goodwill. The girls are doing some baseboard scrubbing, and tile grout cleaning is coming up later. When all that is done, it's time to attack the family room. I just hope it doesn't attack back.
Okay, I think my self-imposed break needs to be over.

Clarification

I don't think anyone reads this blog who doesn't know me, but just in case ...
When I mentioned being like God in my last post, I didn't mean in a prideful, new agey "I am a God" kind of way. It's a constant striving for excellence, trying to be like Jesus.
I was just thinking about that as I was driving home from visiting my parents today and wanted to make sure that I was saying what I intended to say.

Verse and Thoughts for the Day

2 Peter 1:3 - His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
So am I reading that right? He has given us everything we need for life and godliness?
Kinda wipes out all of my excuses.
When I see a glaring area of my life that needs to be changed, I'm so quick to whine that I'm not equipped to change it, that I need to do x, y, and z before working on THAT. But Lord, I've got this area nailed down, why can't we spend more time over here?
I'm EQUIPPED. I have everything I need. Godliness is reachable because His own glory and goodness has provided a way to reach it. Godliness ... being like God. Striving to be like Christ in all things. Doing what I'm supposed to be doing, when I'm supposed to be doing it, in the manner in which it's supposed to be done.
So in the frustrating battles that I don't know how to deal with, I'm equipped. Making excuses won't work, but neither will jumping out there in my own power. He has equipped me ... through His Word, through His Holy Spirit, through Him revealing Himself to me.
HOW AWESOME!

How I've Spent My Morning
Pin It
I love my son. He is so sweet and so happy, and I'm just in love with the little darling. I'm loving that he's talking now. He's been awake for about half an hour, and in that time, he's told me that he loved me, he kissed an owie I have about twelve times, he requested juice, he requested milk (yeah, he drinks a LOT in the mornings), he requested Mickey Mouse (and sang the Hot Dog song for me, too cute!), and he requested Monsters. Wondering what Monsters is? hehe ... enjoy!
